Get Physical Music acquired the Definitive label earlier in the year and now offers a second volume of classics from its venerated vaults. All three tracks from Calisto, Dance Fever and Las Americas have been remastered.
John Acquaviva, Richard Hawtin and Karl Kowalski founded this cult label in 1992, putting out a perfect mix of driving and dynamic house aimed squarely at the club. Acquaviva remains involved alongside Get Physical and appears here with a superb remix.
But first is Calisto with the 1994 gem 'Get House,' a raw and percussive cut with a bassline that drills down deep to the heart of the dance floor. Cut up vocals and stiff snares make for an edgy groove with synths that still sound futuristic. Then comes long-time underground pioneer J. Acquaviva with his ‘U Ain't Really Disco Mix’ of Dance Fever's 'A Woman In Love' from 1992. A long-time secret weapon for DJs of the time, it's a dubbed-out house swinger with muffled trumpet motifs, impassioned vocal cries and a steamy vibe that proves irresistible. Last but not least is Richie Hawtin in lesser known guise Robotman with his 1994 flip of Las Americas 'Look, Listen, Love.' It's turbocharged future house with a dark soul. Pulsing synths ride up and down the mix next to crisp hits, while the chunky drums and bass bring plenty of bounce.
This is another trio of essential and authentic early house music weapons.
Marius Circus’s cover of Lindstrøm’s “I Feel Space” is epic and expansive; Weatherall’s remix is dark, dubby, and haunting. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 23, 2018
